Best Binoculars – Nikon 7540 Monarch 3 – 8×42 Binocular Review
Do you love going to see a good game, but end up getting stuck up in the high seats? Would you love a way to get close to nature without getting too close? With Nikon 7540 Monarch 3 binoculars, you’ll be able to experience what life is like with a front row seat! With a set of corrected prism that helps to remove image degredation thanks to its silver alloy high reflective phases, the images that you’ll see through this binocular is simply outstanding! It’s available in an 8×42 or 10×42 version depending on what your needs happen to be.
What Are the Features of The Nikon 7540 Binoculars?
The nicest aspect of this particular binocular is that it’s been constructed with a full polycarbonate body. This allows you to take this binocular virtually anywhere on an adventure and you’ll still end up getting the views you want! You don’t have to worry if you’ve thrown this binocular into your pack or you bang it into something while you’re carrying it because it really stands up to a lot of punishment!
If it doesn’t, then you’ll still get to take advantage of one of the best warranties in the business. This Nikon binocular is covered with a 25 year No Fault warranty. If it breaks, then it will get repaired or you’ll get a new unit. That’s a pretty good deal!
There are also these additional features to consider with Nikon 7540 binoculars as well:
- it has a unique multiple click set of eyecups that turn and slide, having enough eye relief that they can be used with most eyeglasses;
- all of the lens surfaces on this binocular have an anti-reflective coating placed on them and all of them are multi-coated;
- this binocular is waterproof and fogproof so you can take it into virtually any environment and achieve personal success; and
- it has a close focus distance of 9.8 feet.
It’s the rubber body armor that really makes this binocular stand out from the competition. It eliminates the fatigue in your grip that you’ll get with other similar styles of binoculars, but still gives you a stylish, modern look. Throw in the objective lens covers that attach to the binocular and you’ll find that there’s a lot of value in the construction of this unit.
Are There Any Advantages That Come With the Nikon 7540 Monarch 3?
Besides providing very clear and bright optics in even twilight conditions, the primary advantage that comes with this particular binocular is that it provides a good stability. Keep in mind that there is a pretty big difference in the 8x and 10x models of this binocular, but your field of vision will be really good. There’s very little wobble in the image and your depth of visibility remains fairly constant throughout the entire experience.
There’s also the advantage of the waterproof construction of this unit that gives users a secondary advantage. With solid O-rings installed, the lens will stay clear for viewing whether you’re out in the rain or down under water looking at a coral reef. It won’t take a lot of atmospheres, mind you, even though it is nitrogen filled, so don’t take it down to a depth of more than 10 feet. Otherwise you’ll find that this binocular has the power to go a lot of places.
There’s also the consideration of the warranty. Nikon will repair or replace your Nikon 7540 Monarch 3 for just $10, plus return shipping and handling, even if you’ve broken the binocular through your activities.
What About Practical Use?
The entire unit weighs about two pounds, so you’re going to feel some fatigue if you’re carrying this binocular around your neck for some time. It is pretty compact, however, so it will fit into most bags or packs quite easily so you can access the binocular when you need a close-up view of something.
The strength of this binocular is quite outstanding. From about 50 feet away, it is possible to read small font text. For long distance items, features that are about 1,000 yards away bring you about 80% closer to the item with a crystal clear view. You’re not going to be able to see Saturn up close in the night sky, mind you, but you can get a new perspective of the stars or figure out what animal is grazing in the field down below without a lot of effort.
The binoculars are threaded for a standard tripod mount if you want a stable watching experience.
What About Any Disadvantages?
The one annoying issue with the Nikon 7540 Monarch 3 is the same issue that comes with a lot of binoculars: the lens covers tend to fall off a lot. They’re molded and slip onto the frame itself, but don’t always stay on when you want them to stay on.
There also seems to be a bit of a problem with the eye cups. The depth is wonderful and they’re quite useful, but they tend to separate from the unit over time. In speaking with Nikon, they state that there is a known issue with the glue that was used in the Monarch 3 series and that there have been a few complaints, but it isn’t an issue that has affected every unit.
That brings up the one issue about the warranty: it’s good, but it isn’t free. If there’s a defect with the binocular and you need to send them in on a warranty claim for a manufacturer’s defect, then you’re going to be paying the shipping costs to send the item in. You can have the repair fee and return shipping waived, but put on your negotiating shoes because it’ll take some work to get the initial shipping fee recompensed or a shipping label sent to you.
Overall Nikon 7540 Monarch 3 is an excellent item that will give you a clear image and it’s incredibly easy to change the focus on it. Outside of the few minor issues, it is an excellent product and well worth the investment at this price point.
